Purpose
The purpose of this privacy policy is to inform users of our website about the personal data we collect and to provide the following information.
Management of personal data
In France, personal data is notably protected by Law No. 78-87 of 6 January 1978, Law No. 2004-801 of 6 August 2004, Article L. 226-13 of the French Penal Code and the European Directive of 24 October 1995.
During the use of the website, the following data may be collected: the URL of the links through which the user accessed the site, the user’s Internet service provider, and the user’s Internet Protocol (IP) address.
In any case, the publisher only collects personal information about the user that is necessary for the provision of certain services offered by the site. The user provides this information knowingly, in particular when entering it themselves. It is then specified to the user whether or not it is mandatory to provide such information.
In accordance with the provisions of Articles 38 and following of Law No. 78-17 of 6 January 1978 on data processing, files, and individual liberties, every user has the right to access, rectify, and object to personal data concerning them by sending a written and signed request, accompanied by a copy of an identity document with the holder’s signature, specifying the address to which the reply should be sent.
No personal information of the site user is published, exchanged, transferred, assigned or sold on any medium to third parties. Only in the event of the acquisition of the publisher and its rights would such information be transmitted to the potential purchaser, who would in turn be bound by the same obligation to retain and modify the data with respect to the site user.
The site is in the process of registration with the CNIL (Commission Nationale de l’Informatique et des Libertés).
Compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
In accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), this privacy policy complies with the following principles.
Personal data must be:
- Processed lawfully, fairly, and transparently in relation to the data subject (lawfulness, fairness, transparency);
- Collected for specified, explicit, and legitimate purposes and not further processed in a manner incompatible with those purposes; further processing for archiving purposes in the public interest, scientific or historical research, or statistical purposes shall not be considered incompatible with the initial purposes, in accordance with Article 89(1) (purpose limitation);
- Adequate, relevant, and limited to what is necessary in relation to the purposes for which they are processed (data minimisation);
- Accurate and, where necessary, kept up to date; every reasonable step must be taken to ensure that personal data that are inaccurate, having regard to the purposes for which they are processed, are erased or rectified without delay (accuracy);
- Kept in a form which permits identification of data subjects for no longer than is necessary for the purposes for which the personal data are processed; personal data may be stored for longer periods insofar as they are processed solely for archiving purposes in the public interest, scientific or historical research, or statistical purposes in accordance with Article 89(1), provided that the appropriate technical and organisational measures required by the regulation are implemented to safeguard the rights and freedoms of the data subject (storage limitation);
- Processed in a manner that ensures appropriate security of personal data, including protection against unauthorised or unlawful processing and against accidental loss, destruction, or damage, using appropriate technical or organisational measures (integrity and confidentiality).
Processing is lawful only if, and to the extent that, at least one of the following applies:
- The data subject has given consent to the processing of their personal data for one or more specific purposes;
- Processing is necessary for the performance of a contract to which the data subject is a party or in order to take steps at the request of the data subject prior to entering into a contract;
- Processing is necessary for compliance with a legal obligation to which the controller is subject;
- Processing is necessary to protect the vital interests of the data subject or another natural person;
- Processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the controller;
- Processing is necessary for the purposes of the legitimate interests pursued by the controller or by a third party, except where such interests are overridden by the interests or fundamental rights and freedoms of the data subject which require protection of personal data, particularly where the data subject is a child.
For residents of the State of California (CCPA)
For residents of the State of California, this privacy policy aims to comply with the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). In the event of any inconsistencies between this document and the CCPA, the state legislation shall prevail. If inconsistencies are identified, we will amend our policy to comply with the relevant law.
Comments
When you leave a comment on our site, the data entered in the comment form, as well as your IP address and browser user agent string, are collected to help us detect spam comments.
An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to check if you are using it. The Gravatar privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After your comment is approved, your profile picture will be publicly visible next to your comment.
Use and transmission of your personal data
If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.
Data retention period
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This allows us to recognise and automatically approve subsequent comments instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users who register on our site (if applicable), we also store the personal information they provide in their profile. All users can view, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except for their username). Site administrators can also view and edit this information.
Your rights regarding your data
If you have an account on our site or have left comments, you can request to receive a file containing all the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request the deletion of your personal data.
This does not include data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where your data is sent
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded GPS (EXIF) location data. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the site.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in exactly the same way as if the visitor had visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed third-party tracking tools, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Hyperlinks
The site contains a number of hyperlinks to other websites, set up with the publisher’s authorisation. However, the publisher has no control over the content of the sites visited in this way and therefore assumes no responsibility in this regard.
Some hyperlinks are affiliate links, which means that when you purchase something using the retail links in our articles and product reviews, we earn a small affiliate commission. Affiliate links are now a common practice in online publishing and offer a way to help pay our writers for producing high-quality articles on this site.
Modifications
This privacy policy may be modified from time to time in order to remain compliant with the law and to reflect any changes to our data collection process.
We recommend that users check this policy periodically to ensure they are aware of any updates. If necessary, we may inform users by email of significant changes to this policy.
